He served as I clerk and stenographer in the car and transportation departments until I December 15, 1895, when he was appointed chief clerk to the superintendent I at Chillicothe. After four years of service there he went to Cincinnati as I secretary to the vice-president and general manager, later becoming chief I clerk to the general manager, and assistant secretary of the Southwestern | I I District.
