War memorial on Great Carrs fellside in the Lake District to a RCAF Halifax bomber crew who crashed on the mountain during the Second World War
The photograph is of the war memorial on the fellside of Great Carrs in the English Lake District to a Royal Canadian Airforce crew whose four engine Halifax heavy bomber crashed into the hillside during the Second World War, all the crew were killed and the wreckage strewn over a large area. Part of the landing gear still remains at the crash site. One of the four Rolls Royce Merlin engines can be seen at the Ruskin Museum in Coniston town
