Arabic Map of the Mediterranean; inverted North & South; Weltkarte des Idrisi vom Jahr 1154 Charta Rogeriana; Abu Abd Allah Muhammad al-Idrisi al-Qurtubi al-Hasani al-Sabti or simply Al Idrisi (1099–1165 was an Islamic geographer, cartographer, Egyptologist and traveler who lived in Sicily, at the court of King Roger II. Muhammad al-Idrisi was born in the Spanish city of Ceuta (Sabtah) then belonging to the Almoravid Empire and died in Sicily. Al Idrisi was a descendent of the Idrisi rulers of Morocco, who in turn were descendants of Hasan bin Ali, the son of Ali and the grandson of the Islamic prophet Muhammad.
