SMALL POSTMAN (Heliconius erato) A butterfly of the brush-footed family Nymphalidae. It can be found in Central America to Southern Brazil. Caterpillar is white with black spots and spines, and a buff coloured head. It feeds on various Passion flower species. A very variable butterfly of wingspan - 8cm, and extremely similar to Heliconius melpomene. It is black in colour with orange/red markings, elongated forewings and long antennae. It flies close to the ground along forest margins and open ground. Butterflies roost communally at night.
