Barron was awarded the medal for his decisive and courageous actions as civilian pilot on a PSA Airlines flight where he tackling and maneuvering an unruly passenger to the ground after he assaulted a flight attendant. Barron continued to subdue the passenger until law enforcement arrived which saved the lives of the crew as well as others aboard the plane. The medal was recently created to honor Soldiers and Airmen for heroic actions performed while out of the military uniform.
