Itsounds like a fairy-tale, does it not ? But it isevery word true. This is the way it came gloves were first invented, they wereused exactly as we use them now — to keep thehands warm, and to keep them from all sorts ofdisagreeable blisters, burns, and chapping. Theancient Persians wore them at a very earlyperiod, and boys and girls who have read Vir-gils ^Eneid will remember that the Ro- man pugilists wore
