VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (June 8, 2017) “Purple Heart,” a Kemp’s ridley sea turtle, heads back into the Atlantic Ocean after being rehabilitated from a fishing hook. Gunnery Sgt. Paul Worley, attached to Command Marine Corps Security Cooperation Group at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story, released the sea turtle, and is a Purple Heart recipient. “Purple Heart” is equipped with a Navy-funded satellite tag used to track the turtle’s movements and the release was conducted as part of a Navy research project with the Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center.
