The northern-most tip of Pian del Nivolet with Gran Paradiso, Herbetet and Grivola peaks in the background. Pian del Nivolet is a large plateau placed at an altitude of 2600 m. just at the heart ot the Gran Paradiso National Park, on the border between Valle d'Aosta and Piedmont, Italy. The Gran Paradiso National Park is the oldest park of Italy, and its largest wild area. Many wildlife species live there, including ibexes, chamoises, marmots, eagles, hawks and wolves. This picture was taken at the end of July 2008, about 30 minutes before sunset. It is a mosaic of three horizontal frames.
