Bomb Squad Searches Beneath Lake Pier at Bowness On Windermere Cumbria UK Great Britain


PHOTOS . PICTURES & IMAGES OF THE LAKE DISTRICT NATIONAL PARK A bomb squad was scrambled to Windermere in February 2006 . A team of four specialist Royal Navy divers raced from their base ar Faslane in Scotland to Bowness Bay Ferries and pleasure craft were diverted away from the scene by police and lake wardens while the Expolsive Ordance Disposal's (EOD) Northern Diving Squad searched for a supect three inch shell from World War 2 .The police said the rear of the bomb had been spotted sticking out of the mud by a local diver, but the movement of the lake bed had probaly hidden it from view . The Royal Navy said it was not uncommon for shells to be found and that the team would continue to monitor the situation .also it was hard to say whether the motar could be dangerous without the team seeing it.
