They are, however, very rare in the Eastern parts of the Peninsula whose direct com- munications with the West coast were at that time — as far as we know — carried on at a rather small scale. They found their way northwards to the Romsdal and to the country around the Trondhjemsfjord where Eastern forms had till that time been predominant, if we may conclude from the scanty mate- rial of cruciform brooches preserved nere. From nere they came to the Northern districts of Sweden; many of them are.
