A general view of the Falkirk Wheel tourist attraction with the passenger carrying canal boat sailing towards the Union Canal

Editorial use only. While one passenger canal boat is moored in the basin, the other is progressing from the wheel towards the Union Canal. The semi circular visitor centre is behind and the boat piers for mooring are to the left. The lock exit to the Forth and Clyde Canal can just be seen to the left of the rotating wheel. The main purpose of the Falkirk Wheel is to connect up the Forth and Clyde Canal with the Union Canal avoiding the building of a series of individual locks
