Elias Loomis (1811-1889), American mathematician. Loomis published many textbooks on mathematics, including works on analytical geometry and integrated calculus. From 1844-1860 he was professor of natural philosophy and mathematics at the University of the City of New York and later became professor of natural philosophy at Yale. Photographed circa 1880-1890.
