Ascent of Mont Blanc. 19th-century artwork of mountaineers ascending Mont Blanc. They are in an area called La Jonction, the meeting point of the Bossons Glacier and the Taconnaz Glacier. Mont Blanc, on the France-Italy border, is the highest mountain in the Alps, reaching an elevation of 4810 metres. The first recorded ascent to the summit was in 1786. Artwork from the 21st volume (first period of 1898) of the French popular science weekly 'La Science Illustree'.
