Of his early life little is known. As has been alreadymentioned, he became in 1544 a student of Lincolns Inn, and aslate as 1554 he appears to have been a member of it, but in 1556he is mentioned in connexion with the Ward,- and was thenresident there, as his brother Richard had been prior to hissuccession to the title. He must have been then married formore than ten years.^
