Hatchling flatback turtle (Natator depressus), Pilbara region, Western Australia


Thevenard Island, Pilbara region, Western Australia - 7 Feb 2016 - A newly-hatched flatback seaturtles (Natator depressus) swims in the ocean for the first time, Thevenard Island, Western Australia. Hundreds of baby turtles hatch nightly on the beaches of Thevenard Island at this time of year. Flatback seaturtles are known only from remote parts of northern Australia and like most other turtles are considered vulnerable to extinction.
