A colourful Panther Chameleon looking forward and about to strike with it's Release.
Panther Chameleon ( Furcifer pardalis ) are from the Ambilobe locality. Just one species, but a great many are used in the case of a few reptiles because some vary in colour over different parts of their natural range. Chameleons or chamaeleons, (Family Chamaeleonidae) are a distinctive and highly specialized branch of lizards with some 202 species. These species come in a range of colors, and many species have the ability to change color. Chameleons are distinguished by their zygodactylous feet (two toes facing forward (digits 2 and 3) and two toes back (digits 1 and 4) and their very extensive, highly modified, rapidly extrudable tongues. Most species, the larger ones in particular, also have a prehensile tail. Chameleons' eyes are independently mobile, but in aiming at a prey item, they focus forward in coordination, affording the animal stereoscopic vision.
