This Thermopolium was a 3rd century tavern that sold hot drinks and food to the inhabitants of Ostia Antica, an ancient Roman seaport built at the mouth of the Tiber River near Rome, Italy. Ostia Antica was founded by the Roman king Ancus Marcius in about 620 BC and was used to import grain and other essentials for the city of Rome.
