This looping machine—variously called looper, turning-off ma-cMne, or rihher—is extremely simple in construction, containing as 345 52 KNIT GOODS FINISHING it does only the principal fundamental sewing-machine functions, andit has passed through but few radical changes since its inception yearsago. Indeed, it requires no stretch of the imagination to recognizein its main features those of the orginal Elias Howe hoop wheel feedmodel for a sewing machine. Even so, it is today the only practicaldevice which will do its work perfectly, owing to the prime necessityof first impaling each individual knitted loop of both parts of the fabric. Fig, 26.
