Statue of George Augustus Eliott, Baron Heathfield, in the cloisters of The Convent (Governor's Residence), Convent Place, Main Street, Gibraltar. The Convent has been the official residence of the Governor of Gibraltar since 1728. It was originally a convent of Franciscan friars, hence its name, and was built in 1531, and heavily rebuilt during the 18th and 19th centuries. The Office of the Governor also supports dialogue between Her Majesty’s Government of Gibraltar and Her Majesty’s Government in the UK on a range of issues, to further develop the modern partnership between Britain and Gibraltar. Lieutenant General Davis took up his appointment as Governor and Commander-in-Chief of Gibraltar on 19 January 2016.
