Thymidylate synthetase inhibition. Computer model showing a molecule of human thymidylate synthetase (hTS) being inhibited by a thymidylate synthetase

Thymidylate synthetase inhibition. Computer model showing a molecule of human thymidylate synthetase (hTS) being inhibited by a thymidylate synthetase inhibitor peptide bound the active site (centre). TS is the enzyme used to generate thymidine monophosphate (thymidylate), which is subsequently phosphorylated to thymidine triphosphate for use in DNA synthesis and repair. It is also a target for anti-cancer chemotherapy treatments, as seen here.
