The remains of an altar can still be seen in an apse of the southern Ġgantija temple. Soft limestone, which was easier to work with the stone tools available at the time, was used inside the temples. The temple is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Megalithic Temples of Malta and is one of the oldest half-preserved freestanding buildings in the world. Xaghra, Malta
