George Petros Efstathiou (born 1955), British cosmologist. Efstathiou's work is focused on how galaxies formed and evolved into the large-scale structure of the Universe that we observe in the sky. He was Savilian Professor of Astronomy at the University of Oxford from 1988 to 1997. He was elected Fellow of the Royal Society in 1994. From 2004 to 2008, he was Director of the Institute of Astronomy at the University of Cambridge. From 2008 he has been Director of the Kavli Institute for Cosmology at Cambridge. He was jointly awarded the 2011 Gruber Prize in Cosmology. Photographed in 2007, in the University Observatory Library, Cambridge, UK.
