Old cannon and cannon balls on the rampart at the Kastellet citadel close to Langelinie, Copenhagen, Denmark. Kastellet is one of the best preserved fortificatons in Northern Europe. The construction was started by King Kristian IV as far back as 1626. It is constructed in the form of a pentegram with bastions in its corners. Kastellet was a part of the ring of bastioned ramparts that circumsized Copenhagen. Today only the ramparts along Christianshavn remains. Kastellet was used in the defense of Copenhagen against England in the Battle of Copenhagen in 1807.
