With breathtaking aerial antics 40m above Stockton’s high street Stockton International Riverside Festival (SIRF) promises to be the most daring and exciting yet. Aerial Antics Billed as a breathtaking festival Sirf 06 runs from the 2nd to the 6th August and attracts a myrid of international artists, Stockton plays host to one of arguably the biggest and most comprehensive street theatre festivals in the UK. A free event which again this year will showcase many specially commissioned pieces breathes amazing life and energy into the town centre. Attracting visitors from far beyond the Tees Valley boundary this family event promises to intrigue and mystify its visitors. Dance, entertainment, and theatre complete an amazing 5 day programme. Programme highlights: Main attractions Circo Da Madrugada – Caiu Do Ceu - Brazil Brazilian aerial circus Circo da Madrugada will be an undoubted highlight for audiences this year. Their performance takes place under a spectacular 40m high 'Angeldrome' and tells the story of a group of angels who visit Earth once every 500 years to sample life's pleasures. Duo du Haut – Les Funambules – French/Canadian Catherine Leger form Canada and Ramon Kelvink Jr from Europe have taken tight rope walking to extreme levels. Using a wire of 12mm wide, 110 metres long and mast of 25 metres high they wow crowds with their poetic walks and aerial ballet performances on oscillating poles 25metres above the audience. Finale Circo da Madrugada in Trinity Church Ground and Duo du Haut as the Sunday festival finale in the high street share a theme of aerial thrills and stunning virtuosity. These include dare devil stunts atop 25m oscillating poles, hire wire walking, flying trapeze, static trapeze, clouds swing - in fact, every aerial performance skills know to man.
