MODEL RELEASED. Weather balloon. Meteorologists preparing a zeppelin-shaped tethered weather balloon. The balloon, which is filled with helium, is tethered to a winch (bottom right). An instrument for recording carbon dioxide levels and a radio transmitter will be hung from the line directly below the balloon. The balloon will then be released to a height of 1 kilometre. As it ascends the measurements will be sent to a base station via the radio transmitter. Conditions must be almost windless for successful tethered balloon experiments.
