Pancake Rocks, New Zealand. These eroded rocks at Dolomite Point on the west coast of New Zealand's South Island, consist of mudstone and limestone. The fluted vertical columns are known as \karren\" and have developed their layered appearance as a result of erosion by rain and sea spray of the softer mudstone embedded in the limestone. The Pancake Rocks began to form 20-30 million years ago under the sea. They are sedimentary rock, made from the accumulation of billions of animal and plant skeletons. Despite its name, Dolomite Point does not contain any dolomite!"
