Utrechtse Heuvelrug: National Park Utrechtse Heuvelrug is situated in the southern part of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug. It measures 6,000 hectares. Its status as National Park will ensure that the area is well protected, while its cohesion will be enhanced in the coming years. The quality of nature and leisure activities will be improved. The majority of the woods in the National Park is man-made. Initially, beech trees and oak trees were planted, followed by Scots pines. Birch, oak and beech trees came up, resulting in mixed woods. Heathlands and shifting sands make up the rest of the National Park.
