Archduke John of Austria, 19th century. Archduke John of Austria (1782-1859) was the thirteenth child of Leopold II, Holy Roman Emperor. He served as a Field Marshal in the Austrian army in the Napoleonic Wars and after the revolution of March 1848 was elected regent of Germany by the Frankfurt Assembly. From a private collection.
