Many years were passed in improvingand cultivating this land, and it at last becameone of the best farms in the county. On thisfarm, where he had spent the best years of his life,the father of our subject received his final sum-mons in 1878, when eighty-five years of age. The youthful days of our subject was passed inassisting his father on the farm, and in receivinga good practical education in the common naturally possessed of an active and brightmind, he improved all his siiare moments, andwhen nineteen years of age he began wielding the.
