The birds lock in on each other LONDON, ENGLAND ACTION PACKED images of a kestrel engaging in an aerial battle with a short eared owl have been captured near Staines, UK. Images show the kestrel and short eared owl going talon to talon as they both compete over the same hunting ground. The term kestrel (from French: crécerelle, derivative from crécelle, ratchet) is the common name given to several species of predatory birds from the falcon genus Falco. The short-eared owl is a widespread grassland species in the family Strigidae. These images were captured by photographer Lee Tilley (47) from London England. Lee captured the owls in Staines Moor, near Staines in the south of England on his Canon r6 and sigma 150-600mm. ?Seeing a parliament of short eared owls hunt is a thrill in itself,? said Lee. ?When the kestrel came along it was a unique shot to see them together. ?To see the owl defending its territory against the kestrel was awesome to watch as both birds are masters of flight. ?The twisting, turning and agility of these birds is simply unmatched. ?These two birds tussled on and off for a while and it was ENDS
