The exhaustwas connected through about 20 ft. of 7-in. pipe to a Wheeler sur-face condenser. Two series of runs were made, the one non-condensing, the other condensing. In the latter vacuum was usedas high as could be obtained. This was found to be about each series a number of runs were made, varying from frictionload to approximately 25 per cent overload. The duration of theseruns varied from one to two hours each, depending upon the con-stancy of the various observations. The most important result, steam consumption, was computedfor the ihp and the dhp per hour on the basis of dry steam. The. DOUBLE TRACK THROUGH Y USED BY THE BROOKLYN HEIGHTS RAILROAD COMPANYAND GRAHAM AVENUE, BROOKLYN AT MESEROLE STREET piece of special work is to be installed at the corner of MeseroleStreet and Graham Avenue, and consists of 9-in. rail with hardenedcenter special work. A special feature of the crossing, however, isthe use of a method of holding the tongues of the entrance switchesfirmly in one position or the other to avoid all possibility of thewheels straddling the switch. The arrangement cannot be inter-fered with by snow or ice, but the tongue can be easily turned bya switch iron. The crossing contains eight tongue switches, fourtongue mates, three standard mates and one combination mate. — ♦♦♦ THE THOMAS SOLDERED RAIL BOND The Lord Electric Company, of Boston, Mass., has recentlyacquired from Edward G.
