Oates leaving his tent, never to be seen again on March 17th 1912. ----Captain Lawrence Edward Grace "Titus" Oates (17 March 1880 – 17 March 1912) of Gestingthorpe Hall was a British army officer (Inniskilling Dragoons), and Antarctic explorer, who died on or about his birthday during the Terra Nova Expedition or British Antarctic Expedition led by Robert Falcon Scott. Oates walked into a blizzard as an act of self sacrifice after he felt frostbight in his hands & feet was holding the Polar expedition back. His body was never found
