Statue of Don Blas de Lezo before the background of the old Spanish fort Castillo San Felipe de Barajas at Cartagena, Colombia.
Statue of Don Blas de Lezo before the background of the old Spanish fort Castillo San Felipe de Barajas at Cartagena de Indias, Colombia. Don Blas de Lezo was a Spanish admiral who lost an arm, an eye, and a leg in service to the colonies, and famously led the defense of Cartagena against a vastly superior British force in 1741. His maimed appearance, accurately reflected on this statue, makes him look like a picture book pirate.
