Michael Collins and General Mulcahy, Army Chiefs of Staff at the funeral of Arthur Griffith. Suffering from overwork and strain after the long and difficult negotiations with the British government, Griffith attended forty-one of the forty-two provisional government meetings held between 23 June and 30 July, and the work involved in establishing the Free State government. Ten days before Michael Collins' assassination in County Cork, Griffith died at the age of 51, on 12 August 1922, from a cerebral haemorrhage and was buried in Glasnevin Cemetery four days later.
