Charles Putnam Symonds (1890-1978), British neurologist. Symonds studied at Oxford and then at Guy's Hospital. During World War I he served in the army twice either side of completing his medical studies. After the war, he specialised in neurology and head and brain injuries (such as subarachnoid haemorrhage and idiopathic intracranial hypertension). During World War II, he studied and described neuroses causing by the stress of wartime aviation. Symonds was appointed Companion of the Order of the Bath (1944) and Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire (1946). At the end of the war, he was an acting air vice marshal in the RAF.
