TRADE ACTIVE. October has opened with prospects exceptionally bright. There has been an improvement in the market owing to a scarcity of stock. Retailers have been forced to pick up stock wherever and whenever possible. There has been a big increase in demand for carna- tions. The local cuts are much heavi- er, but not large enough to meet the demand. Stems are of fair length and the quality is good. More orders have been received and larger ones filled than for the corresponding time last year. Roses are being cut in large quantities and of good quality. The demand and supply are about equal. Chrysanthemums now are the favorite. Although a little slow in coming, they will soon be had in great quantities. NOTES. The Cottage Rose Gardens have a fine lot of roses which show excellent care. They are busy propagating ger- aniums, having about 10,000 in sand. A look around the establishment of the Riverside Floral Co., shows the stock in good growing condition. This firm reports business brisk, the re- ceipts being larger than at any time since starting in business. Mrs. E. M. Krauss, formerly with the Riverside Floral Co., has been en- gaged to take charge of the floral de- partment of the Charles R. Holt Co., 610 W. Broad street. Miss Margaret Evans, 1179 E. Main street, is erecting a modern dwelling house. She reports heavy funeral work, and many weddings on for fu- ture datJs. The force at the Livingston Seed Co.'s greenhouses is very busy potting azaleas,
