The sand-operating device consists of a vertical levermounted on the platform, the same fixture also carrying a secondlever for use in operating the fenders. These levers have anangle iron stop which also carries the fender lifting lever. Thehand brake staff is made of l|-inch round Norway iron, and isprovided with a ratchet brake wheel at the top, and a twist brakechain at the bottom.
