Gamestation was founded in 1993 and in 2002 was taken over by Blockbuster. In 2007, after consolidation by Blockbuster following debts, Gamestation was sold to Game Group. The Gamestation shops continued to trade under their own identity until Game Group went into administration in 2012. In March 2012 OpCapita purchased the company, taking on the 334 remaining shops.
