Syria. One of the old narrow gauge steam trains at Damascus railway station that used to make the journey on the Hajez line from Damascus to the Red Sea port of Aqaba whose passengers included a young TE. Lawrence before he became Lawrence of Arabia and Agatha Christie who found inspiration from the various passengers on the train for her novel Murder on the Orient Express. The trains were subject of Lawrences attention during the First World War as he tried several times to blow them up as they were used to transport Turkish troops and supplies.
