Beggars in Barisal District, Bangladesh share some candy floss on a ferry crossing. Bangladesh has been subjected to frequent natural disasters in recent years and the City of Barisal in Barisal District has been the headquarters for many aid agencies in their attempts to restore people’s lives . The citizens of these areas of Southern Bangladesh are resilient in the face of constant threat from nature and these portraits reflect the determination of the people to continue living their lives as they have done for generations. The borders of present-day Bangladesh were established with the partition of Bengal and India in 1947, when the region became the eastern wing of the newly formed Pakistan.
