Water gardens. THE BOOK OF WATER HARDENING Nymphaea rubra is very similar to the last mentioned. The petals are less pointed than in Nymphaea Devonietfsis, while the sepals are wider at the base. The leaves arc mottled purplish brown on the under side, reddish bronzy brown on the surface, from twelve to eighteen inches in diameter. The flowers measure from six to ten inches across. There is little doubt that the true Nymphaea rubra has been lost to cultivation, and that what is here described as rubra is only a garden NYMPHAEA DEVONIENSIS Tender Night Flowering Nymphaea rubra rosea is a fine water lily, producing blooms from six to ten inches across, of a deep brilliant rosy carmine color. The petals are wide at the base, tapering to the point; the stamens are reddish brown at the tips and orange brown at the base. The leaves are deep green above faintly spotted brown with a slightly dentate margin. Nymphaea O'Marana (Bisset) gives flowers from eight to twelve inches across, of a beautiful rosy red shade with a faint tinge of white down the center of [84].
