The Temple of Poseidon, Cape Sounion, Greece. Artist: Samuel Magal

The Temple of Poseidon, Cape Sounion, Greece. The peninsula of Sounion has been inhabited since the prehistoric period and there seems to have been some form of cult there in Mycenaean times. The Temple of Poseidon is from the early 5th century BC. Two temples of Athena are preserved and an irregular circular enclosure near the temples was identified as the Sanctuary of Phrontis.
