This theory is, in brief, that thesepeople are the remnants of an ancient Siberian tribe,the Onkilon, the last remains of which, driven fromtheir homes and out on to the Arctic Ocean by thefierce waves of Tartar invasion in the Middle Ages,passed to the New Siberian Islands, and thence grad-ually over or along lands as yet undiscovered, per-haps even across the Pole itself, to the Northern.
