Building a Runway for Supplies to Cape Sansapor. The beach at Cape Sansapor, Dutch New Guinea, was not made to order for the American invaders, so troops turned to build a ramp out to the yawning bow doors of a Coast Guard-manned LST. Bulldozer, foreground, was put to good use in constructing the "dock." Coast Guard gunners are ready to meet any interference from Jap planes, while a PBY swoops low in its reconnaissance assignment. American invaders wrested Cape Sansapor from Jap defenders and thereby gained an important air base on the western end of New Guinea.
