Ectodermal dysplasia. Hands showing ectrodactyly, absence of all or part of one or more digits. Ectrodactyly is one condition of EEC syndrome, which is a form of ectodermal dysplasia. EEC stands for Ectrodactyly, Ectodermal dysplasia and Clefting syndrome. Although it is an inherited developmental disorder, there can be considerable variation in the level of expression between affected members of the same family. The gene responsible for EEC syndrome is P63. Other characteristics of ectodermal dysplasias are missing or malformed teeth, abnormality of hair growth and irregular skin pigmentation.
