Ben Franklin Letter to Strahan


William Strahan was a member of the British Parliament. A friend of American statesman Benjamin Franklin, he, nevertheless, voted with Parliament in 1775 to label the colonists as rebels. Franklin wrote this letter July 5, 1775, but never actually sent it to Strahan. It was circulated in the colonies. The text reads" Philad July 5, 1775, Mr. Strahan You are a Member of Parliament and one of that Majority which has doomed my Country to Destruction. You have begun to burn our towns and murder our People. Look upon your Hands. They are stained with the Blood of your Relations. You and I were long You are now my Enemy and I am Yours. B. Franklin
