THE WART-HOG Native of Africa—So called from the large fleshy lumps on the face—The upper teeth are bent outwards and upwards ugly head and body, the eyes are really their most forbidding char- acteristic. They are small and sinister. When the animal is disturbed they fairly blaze with rage. When attacked, the wart-hog usually runs for his burrow, for they live under ground as a rule, and it is a truly funny sight to see one going down this hole in the ground backward, as their custom is. They are rarely dangerous unless cornered or the horseman is thrown during the chase. If this happens the wart-hog is apt to turn and charge his fallen pursuer.
