The dramatic sky and general damp weather was, I hoped, going to keep the hoards of tourists away from Castlerigg this morning. I was wrong. The circle was mobbed, I had to fight back the urge to correct and berrate the tour guide who was talking absolute rubbish about the place and concentrate on getting a photograph of the stones without a multitude of gawping figures in it! The atmosphere of the place is lost when there are that many people there unfortunately, although I can't critisise people for wanting to visit such a dramatic and significant site. This was taken as a 10 shot panoramic using the 45mm lens (90mm equivalent) to compress the perspective and bring the slopes of Helvellyn forward in the frame and stack the landscape and sky right up to the stones. I tonemapped the whole image in NIX to add extra drama to an otherwise flat lit scene.
