A large evergreen tree, wood red (white when fresh cut), shining, not hard, even grained, medul- lary rays prominent on radial section, young shoots j^iibes- cent. Leaves ovate- or obovate - oblong, acuminate, more or less - lobed, glossy above, pale and pubescent be- neath. Secondary nerves 5-7 pair, the lowest pair basal. Inflorescence tavmy- tomentose Stamens in 5 bundles of 4-7 alternating with long linear staminodes. Capsule with 5 broad membranous wings, 1-1J in. long.
