The Comacina is a historic sailing vessel typical of the city of Comacchio, Emilia Romagna, Italy. The third sail, so called because the point where the antenna is fixed to the mast is approximately one third of its length, is typical of boats in the Adriatic Sea. This type of sail represents the most natural transition from the more ancient lateen square sails to the axial sail typical of modern sailboats. The oldest evidence relating to the use of this type of sail dates back to the 17th century.
